Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival Procedures
Car Riders (7:45-8:00 a.m.)
Entry from Chandler Road is limited to the first entrance on the right facing the school. This is a one-way entrance with two lanes. Both lanes may be used for arrival after 7:45. Prior to 7:45, please keep the inner lane open in case of emergency.
Enter the correct lane depending on how you wish to exit – the outer lane (closest to the street) exits ONLY to the LEFT back toward Old Lebanon Dirt Road, and the inner lane (closest to the school) exits ONLY to the RIGHT, toward Tulip Grove Road.
- Please, drive slowly. Please do not talk on your cell phone during drop-off.
- Cars are not to pass each for any reason.
- Pull all the way down to the sidewalk. If you are the first car, all others will follow behind you by driving as far down the circle as possible before stopping.
- A whistle will be blown to signal that it is safe to let children out.
- Children should exit only on the passenger side and move quickly toward the entrance for the K-1st grade wing – not the Main Office Entrance.
- As a courtesy, please have your children ready to exit with backpacks, lunch boxes. etc. when your car stops.
Walkers
A walker is any student who is not dropped off by car or bus. These students may live in the area or their parents may choose to legally park in a parking spot on the left of the building or in the back of the building and walk them into main entrance of the school.
Entrance for walkers is through the main entrance doors.
Please be careful when walking, always use sidewalks and do not walk through any of the active parking lots or bus drop off lanes.
Bus Riders
Buses will arrive at the school according to their scheduled arrival times. All buses enter through the “bus entrance” of the upper grades parking lot. No cars are allowed to enter while buses are active in the bus lanes.
At 7:45 a.m., buses will dismiss all students into the bus entrance of the upper grade wing of the school. Students must enter through this entrance only. This entrance and other locations inside the building are monitored for safety by ensuring each student is directed to their grade level area or homeroom.
Dismissal Procedures
Car Riders
Dismissal begins at 3:00pm. (You are allowed to line up in both lanes to anticipate dismissal as early as 2:45pm.)
The loading lanes are One Way only. The inner lane (nearest school) will turn right toward Tulip Grove Road, and the outer lane (nearest street) will turn left toward Old Lebanon Dirt Road.
Have your child’s name card visible in the windshield. A teacher will walk down the line and call the names via walkie-talkies to have the students ready for dismissal.
Students will remain seated and supervised in the school building until their name is call. Once their name is called, they will line up under the awning in front of the building until the supervising teachers determine that it is safe to load cars.
- Please remain in your car, your child will be directed to walk to your car.
- We call names, line up students and dismiss students in groups according to traffic flow. Please be patient.
- If for any reason your child is not outside with the car riders, you will be directed to pull into the parking lot in the front of the school and go to the office to collect your child. Please have identification ready.
- Do not move your vehicle until directed to do so!
- Once all students are in vehicles and all vehicles in the group are ready to move, a whistle will be blown and someone will direct you onto the street.
- When directed to move your vehicle, please make the correct exit based upon the lane and direction (outer left – left only; inner lane-right only).
Please, pay close attention to the teacher directions.
Walkers
Students will be supervised at the main entrance doors at 3:00 p.m. for dismissal.
Students check out with the supervising teacher before leaving.
Students who walk home alone should leave the grounds upon dismissal. Students should provide their teacher with a parent-signed letter of permission to walk home at the beginning of the school year or at any time the dismissal procedure for a student changes. The letter is to be given to the teacher at the beginning of the school day.
Bus Riders
All students who have been designated as bus riders will be organized inside the building into their bus routes and will be grouped according to bus color/route. At the time that buses are ready, an announcement will be made for all bus riders to be dismissed. Teachers will escort their bus groups to the appropriate bus and will check off their name from the approved/updated daily lists.
REMINDER: All students are required to follow bus procedures and directions provided by the bus driver at all times. Failure to follow bus rider procedures or directions of a bus driver can result in discipline, including suspension from riding the bus to and/or from school.
